    Will Weight Lifting Stunt Your Child’s Growth?

    In this generation, teenagers focus a lot on image. The boys want to look buff and manly, and the girls want to look sexy and attractive. If you look around the Gym at 5pm on a Monday, you will be surprised to see how many teenagers are exercising. Teenagers go through a phase of wanting to impress others, improve self-confidence and I think most importantly at that age – to get noticed by a significant crush. The big question is, should he/she be doing strength training and weight lifting? Will it stunt their growth?

    As previously suggested, strength training programmes do not seem to have any long term detrimental effect and do not adversely affect linear growth. In fact, the Committee of Sports Medicine and Fitness have stated that there are limited reports that have raised concern about epiphyseal (growth plate) injuries that result from weight lifting in skeletally immature individuals.
