The foot does not simply bear the weight of the whole body, it is a springboard for weight and force; enabling movement for walking, running and jumping. It also absorbs the shock placed on it by these activities. The knee is similar in complexity and is often affected by foot position and surrounding muscle strength. The bones, ligaments and muscles in the feet and knees absorb an enormous amount of impact over a lifetime, especially in an athlete.
